COPPERAS COVE (July 23, 2012)--Copperas Cove High School senior Austin Barker took home the first place NO BULL Documentary of the Year Award on Saturday for his anti-bullying video.
The Great American NO BULL Challenge featured videos submitted by students all over the country, all of which focused on ending bullying.
"The goal of the NO BULL Challenge is to join America's students, educators, counselors, organizations, communities, and corporate America together in an effort to enable real change at the student level," the organization's website says.
Barker wrote and directed the two to five minute film, “The Formula: A High School Thesis,” for the contest which opened in January.
In May, he learned his film had been selected as one of 15 nominations.
All fifteen nominees were invited to attend the NO BULL Teen Video Awards Saturday in San Francisco.
Barker's film landed him a trip for two to the 2013 Sundance Film Festival where the video will be submitted as a Short Film Documentary.
He also won an Apple Mac Book Pro laptop, a $5,000 scholarship, a GoPro Hero2 Video Camera, a text-a-tip program donated to his school in his name valued a $2,000, an internship with the NO BULL Challenge as the campaign manager during the 2012/2013 year and a crystal statue award.
