CRAWFORD (December 4, 2013) Randy Dell Wheeler, 37, who was named in a warrant charging cruelty to a non-livestock animal in connection with the death of a Crawford family’s dog, turned himself in Wednesday afternoon to authorities in Andrews County, Crawford Police Chief Clay Bruton said.

The arrest warrant was issued last week, Burton said.

It stems from the shooting death last month of an 11-year-old Siberian husky named Bishop.

Bishop’s owner Matthew Strahan said he found the dog dead down the road, tangled in a fence, after the pet disappeared from the family's home.

Crawford Police said last month that a neighbor admitted to shooting the dog, but told investigators he was protecting his chickens.

"He killed the dog with a pellet rifle and from there took the animal out and dumped the body on the side of the road," Bruton said.
