MCLENNAN COUNTY (January 14, 2014) An Eddy man was being held Tuesday in the McLennan County Jail after his arrest in connection with a July highway accident that left a Lorena man dead.
Robert Kenneth Peters, 34, was ordered held on a $10,000 bond charged with intoxication manslaughter, online jail records showed.
Department of Public Safety Trooper D.L. Wilson said DPS troopers arrested Peters Monday on a warrant issued in connection with the July 11, 2013 death of James Dewey Eddins II, 22, of Lorena, who died after a one-vehicle crash on Interstate 35 in Lorena.
The crash happened in the early afternoon between Woodlawn and Telephone Roads on the interstate and involved only one pick up truck, Wilson said.
Eddins was pronounced dead at the scene.
Peters, the driver, was taken to Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center in Waco.
Both men were wearing seat belts, authorities said Thursday.
Traffic backed up in the area of the accident and by late afternoon the backup stretched north for seven miles, the Texas Department of Transportation said.
