FORT HOOD (January 2, 2013)--It was a New Year's Eve unlike any other for Sgt. Brian Thomas and his wife Jessica Martinez.

Julian Lee Thomas was born at 4:22 a.m. on New Year’s Day at Darnall Army Medical Center.

The birth of the 7-pound 19.5-inch baby was not something the family was anticipating so soon.

The couple had plans to stay in and watch TV with their 4-year-old and 2-year-old.

"I thought we were going to make it until the third, and I guess he was just ready to come out," Martinez said.

"I was ready for him to come out, too."

Martinez and Thomas said baby Julian is already changing their lives.

"This year, I got to spend it bringing in my brand new son, so it's something I'll never forget," Thomas said.

Baby Julian is the family's last child, and that has given both mom and a bigger incentive for the New Year.

"This is going to be the last addition, so make sure I raise them right," Thomas said.
