FORT HOOD (October 3, 2013)--Fort Hood officials have decided to close the deer bow hunting season on post because of the partial federal government shutdown.
“Fort Hood’s wildlife specialists of the Natural Resource Management Branch have been furloughed and there is not enough manpower to meet the requirements for deer check in and the data collection process, which plays a critical role in the management of the wildlife program on the Fort Hood reservation,” the post said in a press release Thursday.
A decision is pending about gun and rifle deer hunting on post is pending.
The season begins on Nov. 2.
Small game hunting, fishing and area access recreational activities remain operational, the post said.
