FORT HOOD (February 18, 2014) The building at Fort Hood in which Army psychiatrist Nidal Hasan opened fire In November 2009, leaving 13 dead and more than 30 injured, has been razed.
Building 42003 was part of the post’s Soldier Readiness Center and had been sealed off for nearly four years.
Hasan walked into the building on Nov. 5, 2009 carrying two weapons, shouted "Allahu Akbar!" and opened fire, targeting anyone in an Army uniform.
He was convicted and sentence to death last year.
In coordination with the survivors of the rampage and the families of the slain victims, Fort Hood plans to plant trees, install a gazebo and place a plaque on the site.
Other buildings in the area will soon return to soldier readiness processing operations, Fort Hood said Tuesday.
