Fort Hood: Soldier Arrested After Post Murder Transferred

FORT HOOD (September 6, 2013)-- Sgt. Brett Marvin Wessel, 26, a 1st Cavalry Division soldier arrested in the weekend shooting death of retired Army Sgt. Ryan F. Dickinson, 26, of Ronkonkoma, NY., has been released from the Bell County Jail and placed in Army custody.

He has been charged with murder and assault with the intent to commit murder, Fort Hood said Friday.

Dickinson was killed early Sunday morning at West Fort Hood.

Dickinson was shot to death after an altercation during a gathering at a residence on West Fort Hood.

Neither Wessel nor Dickinson lived at the residence, an official said.

Lawyers with the 1st Cavalry Division’s Judge Advocate General's office still were still processing evidence in the case earlier this week.

Wessel is assigned to 1st Brigade Special Troops Battalion, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division.
