FORT HOOD (October 26, 2012) --- On Friday the 4th Brigade Combat Team "Longknife," 1st Cavalry Division cased its colors in preparation for its upcoming deployment to Afghanistan.

Almost 1,300 troops will be reporting for duty in the coming weeks.

This will be the fourth deployment for the brigade and its first to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

The mission is to help train police and security forces in Afghanistan.

Just more than a year ago some of the soldiers in this brigade took on the same challenge in Iraq.

"This brigade just returned from Iraq in August of 2011, only about 14 months ago, so we've got a really good base of knowledge on the mission," 4th Brigade Combat Team Commander Col. William Benson said.

Troop drawdown plans are set to give Afghans control of their own security by 2014.
