FORT HOOD (October 11, 2012)--The 4th Sustainment Brigade will host a deactivation ceremony Friday for the 180th Transportation Battalion.
The mission of the battalion has been to, on order, deploy rapidly to a contingency area by air, sea or land and to conduct motor transportation operations as directed in support of US forces.
While the battalion was in existence in various forms prior to 1967, it was allotted to the Regular Army and was activated at Fort Hood on January 23, 1967.
The battalion received participation credit for three campaigns in southwest Asia as part of Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm, Defense of Saudi Arabia Liberation and Defense of Kuwait, and Cease-Fire, a Fort Hood spokesperson said.
The ceremony is slated for 2 p.m. at Sadowski Field.
