GROESBECK(March 7, 2013)--A half-acre "Victory Garden" for area residents will be opened to the public Saturday by LPCycles owner Thommas Maddux.
Saturday will serve as an initial meet and greet to discuss what fruits and vegetables people would like to grow at the garden.
"I wanted to teach people how to farm and be self-sufficient, because groceries are going through the roof," Maddux said.
The term "victory garden" is used to describe gardens used by a community to share and exchange goods individually grown from within the same garden, usually during tough economic times, Maddux explained.
Community members interested in participating can meet at noon in front of the garden, next to LPCycles on Highway 164.
