By: Brittany Semadeni Email

(September 5, 2012)--H-E-B’s volunteer program Helping Heroes will kick off Friday.

The program provides free breakfast and lunches to some area fire stations and volunteer employees will also help with chores.

Yard work, station cleaning, fire engine cleaning, equipment cleaning and preparation work are some of the chores to be performed.

“Whether we are preparing a hot meal or helping with chores around the station, this program allows H-E-B to honor some of the bravest members of our community,” H-E-B Public Affairs Director Leslie Sweet said.

More than 1,000 volunteers will provide the services near Austin and all across Central Texas.

The Helping Heroes program also honors September 11 as a National Day of Service and Remembrance and pays tribute to the rescue teams who risked and lost their lives at the World Trade Center, spokesperson Jessica Mason said.
