HARKER HEIGHTS (January 9, 2013)--A man was who arrested in December on charges stemming from an investigation of a series of house fires in the East Ball neighborhood in August was indicted Wednesday for three counts of arson as a repeat offender.
Michael Saley, 41, of Colorado, was believed to have been hired to perform demolition work on the houses that caught fire, a spokesman for the Harker Heights Fire Department said.
In August 2012 at least two house fires were reported on East Ball Road, which investigators believe were set deliberately.
In at least one of the fires, residents in two adjacent homes were evacuated as firefighters first doused flames that had spread to a house next door, then turned their attention to the source of the fire at a vacant house.
The Harker Heights Fire Marshal's Office investigated the incidents with assistance from fire marshal's offices in Temple, Killeen and from ATF.
Saley remains in the Bell County Jail in lieu of bonds totaling $225,000.
