HEWITT (July 13, 2012)--A speeding driver eluded police Thursday night after an extended chase, but police say they have him in their sights.
Hewitt Assistant Police Chief Tuck Saunders said that at around 11:25 p.m. Thursday a patrol officer tried to stop a white 1012 Chevrolet Camaro in the 100 block of South 1st Street, but as the officer approached the car, the driver sped away.
Police pursued the Camaro on Hewitt Drive to Spring Valley Road, then to U.S. Highway 84 and onto to State Highway 6 toward Riesel.
The driver eluded police on State Highway 164 headed toward Mart.
Saunders said police are continuing to investigate the incident and pursuing several leads in an effort to identify the driver and arrest him.
Saunders said Woodway police officers and McLennan County sheriff's deputies assisted in the chase.
No one was injured.
