HILL COUNTY (October 11, 2012)—David Helms and Stephen Helms, Jr. have been charged with theft in connection with an attempted break-in in rural Hill County and authorities say the would-be victim has a neighbor to thank for their arrests.

Hill County deputies arrested the two on Oct. 5 after an alert resident spotted two men trying to break into a neighbor’s building on Farm-to-Market Road 339, between Birome and Mount Calm, confronted them and held them at the point of a shotgun until deputies arrived.

The brothers were booked into the Hill County Jail and charged.

The charge later was enhanced because they both have prior convictions on the same charge.

Stephen Helms, Jr., remained in custody Thursday in lieu of $11,000 bond.

David Helms had posted bond and been released.
