KILLEEN (January 2, 2013) --- On Monday the intersection of 8th Street and Avenue D in downtown Killeen will be closed for repairs for about three weeks and the city says drivers should seek alternate routes.

City officials urged drivers to also exercise caution in the downtown area because ongoing work on the Downtown Streetscaping Project.

The first phase of the two-part project includes installing new sidewalks and crosswalks as well as resurfacing streets and adding new landscaping and streetlights at Avenues D and C from 4th to 8th Streets.

The second phase extends the end of Andy K. Wells Hike & Bike Trail at W.S. Young Drive to 10th Street.

The concrete path will be 10-feet wide and will follow avenue G into downtown, city officials said.
