KILLEEN (February 14, 2013) ---Five Killeen firefighters who are members of the fire department’s Swift Water Rescue Team were presented with the Valor Award Wednesday by the Texas Fire Chiefs Association at a banquet in Corpus Christi.
The award is one of the highest awards a Texas firefighter can receive.
The members of the team earned the honor for rescuing three people from cars stalled in floodwaters last March in Harker Heights.
During one of the rescues the inflatable boat the firefighters and the rescued motorists were in snagged on a tree, which punctured the vessel.
Justin Todd, Darren Morphis, Scotty Jones, Mark Whiteley, and Marc Clifford are the firefighters who shared the honor.
