BELL COUNTY (December 3, 2012)--- Mitchell Bahe was in the Bell County Jail Monday charged with injury to a child stemming from an incident in 2007 that left a then 4-month-old infant with a head injury.
Killeen police said Bahe was arrested on Oct. 22 on a warrant in New Mexico.
Bahe was brought back to Bell County and booked into jail on Saturday.
Jail records indicated his bond was set at $300,000.
On April 19, 2007, Killeen police responded to 4512 Loyd Dr. in response to a report that a 4-month-old child was not breathing.
Officers and paramedics found an infant who appeared to have a head injury.
The infant was taken to Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center and then was flown to Scott & White Hospital in Temple.
Police statements indicated that Bahe was at the scene with other individuals and was questioned, an arrest warrant affidavit says.
The affidavit says that Bahe told officers that while he was holding the infant, the baby fell to the floor.
He said he shook the infant and when he realized there was something wrong with the baby he went to get his girlfriend, the affidavit said.
According to the affidavit, a statement from the hospital was submitted that indicated the infant "suffered a severe traumatic brain injury secondary to a shaking injury."
The affidavit also said an officer spoke with the infant's mother almost three months after the incident and learned that the child was blind and would never be able to see.
