KILLEEN (December 3, 2012) --- A group of national assessors from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies or CALEA arrived at the Killeen Police Department Sunday to begin the process of reaccreditation.
A police statement says the team will look at the department's administration, operations, and support services.
Killeen Police Captain Margaret Young said KPD currently holds the advanced CALEA accreditation and every three years a department has to go through the same process to make sure it is upholding the CALEA standards.
Young said KPD first volunteered for the assessment in December 2009, and should know by March 2013 if the department will be reaccredited.
On Monday there will be a public information session that agency personnel and members of the community are invited to attend at which the assessors from CALEA will be present.
That session will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday in the City Hall Council Chambers at 200 East Ave. D in Killeen.
Comments may also be made through a dedicated phone line between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. on Dec. 4.
The number is (254) 616-3110.
