KILLEEN (October 15, 2012)--Police are investigating a local girl’s report that some middle school students assaulted her.

Maya Patton, 13, said she was attacked on two separate days over the past two weeks by students with whom she attends Live Oak Ridge Middle School.

Patton said was she was hit on her face four or five times the first time and also shoved into the street and given a death threat a week later.

"People in the street were pulling over and asking to stop, saying, 'Hey get off of her, you're hurting her,'" said her mother, Kelly Patton.

Maya Patton said both incidents were a shock to her.

Her attackers were strangers.

"I don't even know them," Maya Patton said.

"They were across the street. They came over to me. I tried to get around them, and they wouldn't leave me alone," she said.

Kelly Patton said she's terrified this will happen to her daughter again.

"Those four girls are going to be walking the same route she's walking every day," Kelly Patton said.

Kelly Patton contacted the school district about the matter first.

"Parents have the right to expect that if they send their children to school, we have a zero tolerance policy on bullying," said Killeen ISD Superintendent Robert Muller.

Killeen ISD says if the incident was off school grounds, the case is in the hands of police.

Because of privacy concerns, officials cannot comment on any specific actions taken surrounding any particular incident involving students.

However Muller said Kelly Patton did the right thing in calling police.

"If a parent feels like it's not being taken care of, they can escalate that concern," Muller said.

Now detectives have been assigned to this case and are investigating the assault.

"I'm not going to let this go because if it's not her, it's someone else," Kelly Patton said.

In the meantime, Patton said she is doing the best she can to protect her daughter by making sure someone is able to take her to and from school.
