KILLEEN (December 20, 2012)--Trimmier Elementary School in Killeen was evacuated before the start of classes after a suspicious package was found lying outside the building at around 7:30 a.m. Wednesday.

A letter that advised parents of the incident was set home with students.

"It became evident that the package was unclaimed and as a precaution the campus was evacuated prior to the start of the school day while the matter was thoroughly investigated," the letter from the school’s principal, Penny Batts, said.

KISD officials said Killeen police were contacted, the package was determined not to be a threat, and the school day started on schedule.

KISD officials said it was an isolated incident.
