KILLEEN (November 14, 2013) A Killeen woman was arrested for tampering with evidence after police say she swallowed an unknown amount of cocaine following a traffic stop.

Brenda Gale Branton, , was arrested Wednesday on the charge, police said, but she was not listed Thursday on the Bell County Jail log.

An affidavit issued to support Branton's arrest says on Oct. 2 officers stopped a vehicle near 1010 Root St., in Killeen, for running a red light.

As officers were questioning the driver they noticed a bottle of pills in a passenger's purse.

The affidavit said when the officer asked about the pills he noticed the woman holding the purse appeared to have a small baggie containing a white powdery substance.

When the officer asked to see the purse the woman placed the baggie in her mouth and swallowed it.

Police requested an EMS unit to evaluate the woman because the amount of cocaine she swallowed might be lethal, the affidavit said.
