KILLEEN (October 30, 2012)--A Killeen mother was sentenced to prison Monday for burning her baby with a curling iron in April.

Jasmine Janae Morris, 18, was sentenced to seven years on an injury to a child charge after she admitted she used a hot curling iron to burn her 3-month-old daughter's hands, feet, legs and buttocks during an incident last April.

The Bell County Grand Jury indicted Morris on June 5 following her arrest after Child Protective Services workers said her 3-month-old daughter was burned intentionally.

Killeen police spokeswoman Carroll Smith said officers were sent to the CPS office in April after workers there reported they had a child who had been burned.

CPS workers told police the mother brought the infant to the office to give her up after the girl was injured.

After speaking with the baby's mother, the officers placed her under arrest.
