KILLEEN (August 31, 2012)-The Central Texas College Nursing Department presented the third annual DAISY Faculty Award to Professor Cindy Wesso on Thursday.
Wesso, a professor in the vocational nursing program, has taught at CTC for 14 years and is also a nurse of 35 years.
DAISY, Diseases Attacking the Immune System, was established in 2000 by a family in California who lost their son to complications from Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura at the age of 33.
The award is presented each year to a faculty member for their positive impact on students and is awarded based on student nominations.
Wesso received a hand-carved Shona sculpture entitled "A Healer's Touch," created by the Shona tribe in Zimbabwe, Africa.
The sculpture is based on their tradition of revering traditional healers.
Other CTC nursing faculty members receiving nominations for the award were Elizabeth Colon, Kaylar Griffin, Catherine Gronski, Tammy Niswonger, Gloria Smith, Pat Vasbinder, and Delores Williams.
CTC is one of 17 colleges and universities participating in the award program.
