KILLEEN (March 8, 2013)--Ground will be broken at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery on Hwy. 195 Monday to provide a columbarium and kick off an expansion project there.
A $1 million federal grant will be used to expand the cemetery and a columbarium will be built in the center of the cemetery to store the remains of veterans.
The cemetery has the capacity for up to 50,000 burials and interments of cremated remains, a cemetery spokesperson said.
A groundbreaking ceremony will be held for the columbarium Monday at 2 p.m.
Texas Land Commissioner Jerry Patterson, Congressman John Carter and Veterans Cemetery Grants Service Director Joshua de Leon will all be present.
