KILLEEN (July 19, 2012)—Connell Chevrolet in Killeen, which has been locally owned since it opened in 1955 in Killeen, is being sold to Lithia Motors, Inc., of Medford, Ore., Diane Connell, dealer principal of Connell Chevrolet, announced Thursday.
The sale should be completed by Aug. 27 pending regulatory approvals, Connell said.
Ted Connell founded the dealership in 1955 and Diane Connell, 68, assumed management after his death in 2001.
"Connell Chevrolet has been an important part of the community and my family for a long time," Connell said.
“My late husband created a business very supportive of its surrounding communities, and I believe Lithia Motors will continue this tradition,” she said.
"This was a very difficult decision, but I believe it is in the best interests of my family, the employees and the community," Connell continued. "I was particularly pleased that the offer came from such a dynamic and respected company,” she said.
She said she will continue to live in Killeen.
Lithia Motors, Inc. sells 25 brands of new cars and all brands of used vehicles at 85 dealerships in 11 states, Connell said.
Most of the company's markets are home to military bases and/or are in the heart of thriving agricultural areas, she said.
