LOMETA (September 7, 2012) --- Business owners in one local city plan to do something about the ongoing damage vandals have left behind by creating a petition for a nigh watchman.
Dozens of people signed a petition in Lometa hoping to get a night watchman for the city.
Some businesses in the downtown area have been broken into or tagged with spray paint in recent months.
Lometa Hardware was hit three times by thieves. Owner Leonard Williams said the damage left at his building is adding up to a costly nuisance.
"Every business in town I know of except two has been vandalized or broken into within the last year, the city says we can't afford a night watchman and that's what our petition is we've got over a hundred names every businessperson in town has signed it," Williams said.
The plan is to take the petition to the Lometa City Council to see what can be done about possible extra patrols in the area.
