LACEY LAKEVIEW (September 16, 2013) -- A benefit concert was held at the Connally High School auditorium Tuesday nightfor junior Karen Davila who died three weeks ago.
Karen was diagnosed with Ewings Sarcoma, a rare form of bone cancer, back in April 2012.
Her family says even during chemotherapy and radiation treatments, she was still able to keep her spot at the top of her class academically.
A memorial scholarship fund has been created in her name to raise money for students in her class at Connally High School to help them pay for college when they graduate.
"Throughout her over year battle with cancer she remained number one in her class academically. And was a young lady that touched a lot of lives," says Associate Pastor of Praise Temple Assembly of God, Chad McAninch.
Country Artists Rick Grayson and Holly Tucker put on a benefit concert to raise money for Karen's scholarship fund.
Tickets were five dollars and all proceeds went to the fund.
Grayson and Tucker have also written a duet called Serenade that will be available for purchase on iTunes next Monday.
For the first 72 hours the song is on sale on iTunes, all proceeds will go to the Karen Davila Memorial Scholarship Fund.
You can donate to the fund at any American Bank.
