LAMPASAS (October 9, 2012)--Former Lampasas ISD music school teacher Betty Ann Whitis passed away on Friday after more than 50 years of teaching.

While she spent most of her career in her hometown of Lampasas, Whitis also taught in the Belton school district.

Her late husband, Kline Whitis, was also in the school profession, serving as an elementary school principal.

Mrs. Whitis retired from teaching music at Lampasas High School last year.

She is credited with spearheading numerous choir-related projects including introducing the University Interscholastic League music program to numerous students and faculty.

A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday.

She will be buried at Oak Hill Cemetery where she served as officer on the Oak Hill Cemetery Association board.
