Lampasas: Community Mourns Death Of Former City Leader

LAMPASAS (March 19, 2013)--The community continues to mourn the death of former Lampasas Police Chief and City Manager J.O. Tanner, 82, of Lampasas, after he passed away Thursday.

Tanner emerged as a city leader beginning in 1954 while working for the Department of Public Safety and then continuing in leadership roles as city manager and police chief, a city spokesperson said Monday.

According to a city spokesperson, Tanner served as police chief from January of 1982 until July of 1989 and then as city manager from 1989 until 1992.

He is survived by his wife Betty.

A funeral service was held Monday at Sneed Funeral Chapel in Lampasas and he was laid to rest at Oak Hill Cemetery.
