LORENA (July 4, 2012)--Fiddler Mia Orosco, 19, of Lorena, won the National Old Time Fiddling Association's annual contest last week in Idaho.

Orosco competed against 17 talented fiddlers, playing six rounds in a three-day period.

The last round consisted of a toe-to-toe playoff between the top five competitors, her father Nonie Orozco said.

Scoring was based on a cumulative number by five judges.

Orosco began her musical career at age six and began fiddling at age 13, her father said.

She will enter Baylor University in the fall where she will major in violin performance.
