Marlin: Injured Police Chief Is Back On The Job

MARLIN (February 1, 2013)—Marlin police Chief Darrell Allen is back on the job, about 10 weeks after he was injured in a one-vehicle accident.

Allen, who’s still using a wheelchair, returned to work this week on a limited basis as he continues to undergo physical therapy.

City officials credit the trauma unit at Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center for the way it handled Allen’s head injuries, preventing lasting brain damage.

p>Allen suffered a broken femur and head and other injuries in the accident, which happened at around 2 a.m. Nov. 16 on State Highway 6 north of Marlin as he was driving home from an off-duty security job in Waco.

A Department of Public Safety trooper who investigated the accident said Allen lost control of his 2004 Ford Explorer near Falls County Road 121, it left the roadway and overturned several times.

Allen, who was not wearing a seat belt, was thrown from the vehicle, the DPS report said.

John Cornish has been serving as acting chief in Allen’s absence.
