FALLS COUNTY (November 19, 2012)--Marlin police Chief Darrell Allen remained in critical condition Monday in a Waco hospital after he was seriously injured in a single-vehicle crash on State Highway 6.
Department of Public Safety trooper D.L. Wilson said the accident happened just after 2:30 a.m. Friday on Highway 6 just north of Falls County Road 121.
Wilson said the trooper at the scene reported Allen was southbound in a 2004 Ford explorer, his personal vehicle, when he lost control of the SUV, which left the roadway on the left-hand side.
Allen over-corrected and the SUV overturned, Wilson said.
Allen was ejected from vehicle.
Wilson said Allen was taken to Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center, in Waco, by Capitol Ambulance and was listed in critical condition Friday morning.
Wilson said Allen was returning to Marlin after working an off-duty job in Waco.
DPS Trooper Lonnie Hauck investigated the crash.
Allen suffered minor injuries in January 2011 when his patrol car hit a fence post during a high-speed chase through Falls County.
He was taken to Falls Community Hospital in Marlin where he was treated for minor injuries and later released.
The chase started after a Marlin police officer attempted to pull over a vehicle on Highway 6 whose driver refused to stop.
The ensuing pursuit went through most of Falls County, police said, and ultimately involved not only Marlin police, but also Falls County sheriff’s deputies and the Department of Public Safety
During the pursuit, Allen lost control of his patrol car on a gravel county road.
The car hit a fencepost on the passenger side.
