McGregor: Grand Jury Returns Indictment In Deadly Restaurant Stabbing

The McLennan County Grand Jury returned a murder indictment Wednesday against a man charged in a deadly stabbing in the parking lot of a McGregor restaurant.

MCGREGOR (January 9, 2013)—The McLennan County Grand Jury returned an indictment charging murder Wednesday against Augustine Cantu Jimenez stemming from a deadly stabbing in November 2012 in the parking lot of a restaurant in McGregor.

Police officers arrived just after 12:10 a.m. on Nov. 10, 2012 at Doc's Saloon on Main Street to find Charles Darrell McKenzie, 49, of McGregor, suffering from several stab wounds, according to McGregor police Chief Steve Foster.

He was pronounced dead at Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center in Waco.

Jimenez, whom police initially identified as Augustine Jimenez Gurrero, was arrested at the McGregor Police Department where he and an injured woman were found in the parking lot.

The woman, Paula Rios, had also been stabbed.

She was flown to Scott & White Hospital in Temple for treatment.

Jimenez remains jailed in lieu of $1 million bond.
