MCGREGOR (September 21, 2012)--Landon Hengst of McGregor was recently awarded the 2012 McLennan Community College Distinguished Alumni Award from the MCC Highlander Alumni Association.
Hengst began his collegiate career at MCC in 1981 and led the Highlander baseball team to a NJCAA World Series title in 1983.
His pitching record that year was 20 wins and one loss, which set a national record for collegiate pitching wins that still stands today.
He was recruited to play baseball for the Texas Longhorns and earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Texas in 1985.
The following year he joined Blue Bell Creameries in Waco, where he now serves as Branch Manager.
He has served the community through Midway Little League, and has served on the boards of the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, Robinson Chamber of Commerce, Texas Grocers Association, and St. Matthew Lutheran Church.
