MCLENNAN COUNTY (March 12, 2013)—An 18-wheeler ended up partially submerged in a roadside pond Tuesday morning after a collision with an SUV at the intersection of Old Axtell Road and U.S. Highway 84 in rural McLennan County northeast of Waco.

The driver of the SUV was taken to a Waco hospital for treatment of a foot injury.

The crash occurred as the driver of the Chevrolet S-10 Blazer made a U-turn in the path of the 18-wheeler, which wasn’t hauling its usual load of sand and gravel Tuesday, Department of Public Safety Trooper D.L. Wilson said.

The force of the collision sent the rig off the road and partially into the pond, Wilson said.

The driver of the 18-wheeler was not injured.

A large wrecker pulled the rig back onto the road.
