MCLENNAN COUNTY (July 23, 2014) A former detention officer at McLennan County’s Jack Harwell Detention Center was named in an indictment Wednesday charging three counts of improper sexual activity with a person in custody.

John Timothy Spears, 27, was arrested in February.

McLennan County Chief Deputy Matt Cawthon said at the time that deputies believed Spears, who had just resigned his position at Harwell, was about to leave the county so investigators expedited the warrant so he could be taken into custody before he disappeared.

Spears is the fourth McLennan County correctional officer arrested since 2011 on an improper relationship charge.
