WACO (October 3, 2013)--A state district judge Thursday sentenced a McLennan County man who pleaded guilty to murder in the suffocation death of his ex-girlfriend.
State District Judge Ralph Strother sentenced Jerry William Borchardt, 63, to life in prison Thursday and ordered the sentence to begin only after any revocation of Borchardt’s parole.
Borchardt pleaded guilty on Sept. 23 to murder (habitual) in the July 2012 suffocation death of his estranged girlfriend, Carol Jean Wagner, 60.
Wagner's son found his mother's badly decomposed body on the night of July 30, 2012, wrapped in a blanket and lying on her bed inside her home at 108 Pinto Drive in Eddy.
Borchardt was arrested several days later.
He told investigators he suffocated the woman with a pillow, according to an arrest warrant affidavit.
"The District Attorney's office sincerely hopes that this stacked life sentence gives some measure of peace to the family of Carol Wagner,”Assistant District Attorney Amanda Dillon said.
