MCLENNAN COUNTY (August 30, 2013)—McLennan County Commissioners approved a budget Friday that includes a tax hike.
Commissioners Ben Perry, Will Jones and County Judge Scott Felton voted for the proposed budget while Commissioners Kelly Snell and Lester Gibson voted against it.
The budget includes a 5-cent increase in the tax rate, which will mean $50 more a year for the owner of a $100,000 home.
The budget also includes $4.5 million in budget cuts.
Commissioners cut department head salaries by 5 percent, and directed departments to cut spending by 4 percent, but backed off of a plan to eliminate longevity pay, which could have cost longtime employees as much as $1,800 a year.
