MCLENNAN COUNTY (April 11, 2013)--A food drive will be held Saturday in hopes of collecting enough food for pantries to last through the summer months.

Six locations will be collecting food while five local food pantries will reap the benefits.

Demand for supplemental food is expected to rise during the summer months and according to local pantries, donations tend to dwindle as it gets warmer.

The “Spring Onto Summer Food Drive” will be held in Robinson at Brookshire’s on Peplow Street and Brookshire’s off I-35 in Lorena.

Participating Wal-Mart stores include on I-35 in Bellmead and the Sam’s Club store on E. Waco Drive.

The Wal-Mart store on Franklin Drive in Waco is also participating.

Storehouse Waco, Shepherd’s Heart Pantry, Salvation Army, Lake Shore Baptist Church and Caritas of Waco will all benefit from the collections.

Volunteers will be in the stores handing out a list of much-needed items.

Acceptable foods include: canned meats, canned vegetables, cereals, baby food, peanut butter, macaroni & cheese, dry beans, rice, corn meal and pasta sauces.

Monetary donations will also be accepted.

The food drive lasts from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m.
