WACO (December 16, 2013) A McLennan County man was sentenced to state prison Monday after he earlier pleaded guilty to assaulting a McLennan County deputy sheriff.
State District Judge Ralph Strother sentenced Jason Jerrod Lancelin, 38, to 12 years on the assault of a public servant count and two more years for an assault.
Strother ordered the sentences served concurrently.
On May 22 local authorities began a search for a man who assaulted a deputy sheriff that lasted more than a day.
The next day officers arrested a man who fit the description of the suspect.
Police found him sleeping on a friend's sofa at a home in Bellmead, after receiving a call from a woman who reported that she thought a man staying at her house was wanted by police, authorities said.
McLennan County Chief Sheriff's Deputy Matt Cawthon said officers throughout Central Texas had been looking for Lancelin since a deputy was assaulted late the night before night while attempting to serve an arrest warrant at a home just off Lincoln City Road, near Elm Mott.
Cawthon said the wanted man pushed the deputy and tried to take his stun gun, and then disappeared into some nearby woods wearing only his underwear.
Deputies searched the area that night, but came up empty handed.
