MEXIA (January 18, 2013)--The Animal Birth Control Clinic, City of Mexia and LARAS House are working together to provide low-cost spay/neuter surgeries to local pets Friday.
The clinic is providing veterinarians, vet technicians, medical supplies and equipment during Spay-Neuter Day.
Preapproved residents who signed up to take part were able to bring their pets into the Mexia Civic Center for the surgeries at anywhere from no cost to regular price, depending on the family’s income.
The event was intended to increase awareness of affordable surgeries and to cut down on the number of homeless animals in the county.
A spokesperson for the Animal Birth Control Clinic said that the event is their second, but the first in the area.
Spay/neuter clinic events like this one do not happen very often due to the high cost of the surgeries.
About 40 pets underwent surgery Friday.
