Mexia: Two Fires Burn Tuesday

MEXIA (August 31, 2011)- Two grass fires burned a total of 35 acres Tuesday outside of Mexia.

The first fire burned for two hours Tuesday morning off of Highway 14 north of Mexia.

The Mexia Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to the scene around 11 a.m. Tuesday.

It took crews a little over two hours to extinguish the blaze, which scorched 15 acres.

There were no injuries and no structures were damaged.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

The second fire started when workers cutting pipe with a welding torch sparked a grass fire Tuesday morning west of Mexia.

The Mexia Fire Department was dispatched to some land off of West Highway 84 around 10:30 a.m.

It took crews three hours to extinguish the fire, which burned 20 acres.

There were no injures and no structures were damaged by the fire.
