Milam County: Metal Theft Crackdown Leads To 2 Arrests

MILAM COUNTY (March 5, 2013)--The Milam County Sheriff's Office is cracking down on metal thieves and the effort has led to two arrests.

Deputies investigating a spike in metal thefts along FM 487 and FM 908, on Sheckles Lane, and in the Minerva area made the arrests after responding to a report of a suspicious vehicle in the area.

Metal stolen from an unoccupied building off FM 908 near Apache Pass was recovered during the arrests, the sheriff’s office said Tuesday.

One of the two men was also tied to thefts in Minerva and the burglary of a building in Rockdale, the sheriff’s office said.

Timothy Kuenstler of Rockdale was charged with two counts of theft of copper and one count of burglary of a building and Marcus Gilbert of Somerville was charged with theft of copper and burglary of a building.

Gilbert was free on $10,000 bond Tuesday.

Kuenstler remained jailed in lieu of bonds totaling $26,000.
