MILAM COUNTY (January 18, 2013)—Authorities have arrested more than a dozen people since raiding a cockfighting establishment earlier this month in Milam County.
Numerous tips led the Milam County Sheriff's Office, along with Pct. 1 Constable John Anderle and Texas Highway Patrol, to the property on CR 353 in Gause on Jan. 6.
Nearly 50 gamecocks were seized along with cages, artificial gamecock spurs, scales, slashers and other equipment.
Some vehicles were towed from the scene.
Dozens of spectators purchased tickets, but fled when officers arrived.
Since the raid, nearly a dozen people have been arrested on misdemeanor charges and at least a dozen arrest warrants have been issued.
Greene says several of the participants are not from the area but local arrests have been made.
While not all participants have been tracked down, several people have been contacted and are starting to turn themselves in, Sheriff Greene said.
At least six more arrests are expected in the coming days.
