MOODY (September 10, 2013)--Fire Tuesday afternoon destroyed a large two-story barn just west of Moody but no one was injured in the blaze.
Moody fire Chief Mike Alton said the first alarm was issued at about 12:30 p.m. Tuesday after the fire broke out in the barn on the Eddy-Gatesville Parkway, about a quarter-mile west of Moody.
Neighbors reported the fire after they heard a loud pop and noticed smoke coming from the building.
As soon as Moody firefighters got on the scene and found the barn engulfed, they requested mutual aid from departments in McGregor and Bruceville-Eddy.
Alton said it took firefighters more than an hour to bring the blaze under control and the barn was left in ashes.
Alton said firefighters remained on the scene as late as 3 p.m. mopping up and begin their investigation into the cause of the fire.
The blaze destroyed a large amount of building material that was stored in the barn, as well as a tractor and an antique car that were parked nearby.
