WACO (January 22, 2013)--One of the larger Baylor University research programs known as CASPER, Center for Astrophysics, Space Physics and Engineering Research, began moving into the Baylor Research and Innovation Collaborative Building also known as BRIC today.

"The building was originally a general tires factory built in the early 40's," said Dr. Truell Hyde, Vice Provost for Research at Baylor.

The building was stripped down to its concrete skeleton and given a new look and design.

"Its a really beautiful building, certainly an upgrade for our research group," Brandon Harris, Baylor graduate student said.

CASPER's main lab is being moved into the building, it was at TSTC for the past 12 years.

"It was always a hassle to drive to the lab," Harris said. "now if I just come here to work and want to do an experiment, I can just go downstairs, its just a vast improvement."

The building will do more than provide space for research, it will also bring jobs to Central Texas.

Hyde says the building is attractive to technology-focused businesses.

"Usually one of the things they ask early on is where is my wet-lab space or my dry lab space, Waco has been at a loss in those areas, we just didn't have alot," Hyde said. "And in this building it is really easy to say, yes we can provide both of those to your specifications."

Although it will probably be spring before everyone is moved in, the building is already making a mark.

"This is actually my first day seeing this building and I was already thinking its something I would recommend to other physics students," Harris said.
