WEST (July 13, 2013)--Riders from Temple braved the heat and weekend traffic Saturday for the Ride for West Texas Pride event.

A handful of bicyclists rode 60 miles from Temple to West to raise money for the Fallen Heroes fund for West victims and the Kevin Sanders Memorial Fund.

Danny McDonald who volunteered to cook for first responders and families in need the night after the explosion, was originally going ride solo but gained some company when word spread.

Some Temple Firefighters and other volunteer firefighters rode as well.

Throughout the ride they hit water break check points at volunteer fire departments.

They spoke with four volunteer firefighters at the Bruceville-Eddy Fire Department who worked along-side Kevin Sanders, a Bruceville-Eddy Volunteer Firefighter.

Riders say despite the heat, it was an enjoyable ride.

"We just enjoyed the time, the company and at the end of the day the cause," rider Bob Tushup says.

After raising a few thousand dollars today, the group wants to form a committee and have this memorial ride every year to make sure the tragedy in West is never forgotten.

Even Organizer Danny McDonald says, "it'll be bigger and better next year. We'll have it around April, around the time of the disaster. And we'll have more time to organize it."
