MCLENNAN COUNTY (11/07/2012)-Construction zones along I-35 in Central Texas have plagued drivers more than ever in the past month. But the ones who seem to be suffering the most are truck drivers.

Numerous 18-wheeler accidents have caused closures along I-35 in the past month, some of them fatal.

It's an illustration, CDL Instructor James Evans says, that reflects the ultimate consequence you pay when you turn your back on safety.

"They can replace the load on your truck, but they can't replace the driver," Evans said.

Evans says construction zones have been more prevalent along I-35 in the recent months.

In the wake of numerous accidents that have happened, Evans says safety is a bigger issue he teaches to his students now more than ever.

"You have to focus. You can't lose that. You have to be mindful of your surroundings and conduct yourself as a professional in that truck," Evans says.

"You have to be able to see things before they develop."

Evans stressed that the road will never be a safe place. He says, that it's up to drivers to work together, pay attention, and come home alive.

"Most people get intimidated by a big truck, and yes it's difficult driving out there in these construction zones," Evans said.

"Everyone just needs to have patience and know when to slow down."
