SALADO (March 4, 2013)—An 18-wheeler with a dump-type bed hit a support column Monday morning on an Interstate 35 bridge north of Salado, backing up northbound traffic on the highway, the Texas Department of Transportation said.
The truck bed was so heavily damaged that the rig can’t be easily moved and initially the outside northbound lane of the interstate was closed, but after a wrecker arrived, both lanes were closed at FM 2484 and traffic was being routed off the highway.
Traffic was backed up for more than a mile by noon Monday, but began to move normally after the scene was cleared a short time later.
An engineer was also on the scene to inspect the damaged bridge.
