SALADO (November 2, 2012)--Voters in Salado will have the final say in whether or not a new sewer system should be installed downtown.

The idea has been in the works for the past several years and in September, the Village of Salado Board of Aldermen approved a contract valued at more that $9,000 with consulting firm Kasberg, Patrick & Associates to help scrutinize the potential process of connecting downtown into a wastewater treatment plant near Royal Street.

The plant has not yet been built.

Early figures projected the cost between $3 to $5 million dollars and will only immediately affect downtown residences and businesses.

Thursday’s discussion will leave it up to the voters in the city who will first need to approve a bond to fund the project.

It is likely that action will not be taken until early next year.
